A fire above Highway 12 flared to sixteen and a half acres before being persuaded, by CAL FIRE and better sense, to stop; it is now fully contained. The Supervisors have the valley on their agenda, the vineyards and reservoirs on ours, and seventy-four wild things obligingly presented themselves to be photographed. We also revisit 1925, 1905 and 1886, when the arrests and the harvests were, on the evidence, much the same as ours.
