A wildfire burned 16.5 acres on the slopes above Highway 12 at North Pythian Road this week — the Ledson Winery corner, at the foot of Hood Mountain between Kenwood and Oakmont — and is now 100 percent contained, according to CAL FIRE.
The fire, named the Ledson Fire, started the afternoon of Monday, July 13. Air tankers and helicopters worked the ridge through the week; CAL FIRE’s most recent update, posted Friday morning, lists full containment at 16.5 acres.

The first hour
Readers on the valley floor watched the column climb within minutes of the first report, Monday afternoon.

The burn sits in country the valley knows too well — slopes still carrying the standing dead of the 2020 fires. That it stayed at sixteen and a half acres, in mid-July, is the week’s best news.
