Vella Cheese Company, the Sonoma institution best known for its Dry Jack, has announced on social media that it is closing after 94 years. The family cited lingering effects of COVID and the financial pressures of running a small artisanal producer. Founded in 1931 in a 1904 stone building on Second Street East, the company has stopped making cheese but will continue selling its remaining stock at that location.
