Michael Acker traces the early-20th-century history of professional baseball training in Boyes Hot Springs, whose climate and mineral waters drew Pacific Coast League teams. The San Francisco Seals held spring training there as early as 1912 at a field later known as Lichtenberg Field, near what is now De Chene Avenue. Later arrivals included a Yankees farm team and the Oakland Oaks, and some major leaguers settled in the valley.
